Well this morning i was checking my myspace before i went to school and now they have a new thing where you see peoples new updates and i see some pics of my Friend with pics of his upper body cut up and bleeding now i am not the only one concerned about this but me and my other friends dont know what to do should i call the police hospital mental ward or something? I mean I think this is a point of extreme where he should get help but where do i turn to get him it if he needs?
cutting yourself in the first place is taking it way way way too far. Is he depressed? I know alot of the time people cut because it's like venting. They hurt so much emotionally that they hurt themselves physically to make the emotional pain go away. Is he in high school? Like he lives with his parents?

Go to your Guidance Counselor at school and log on to show them your concern. They will take it from there and you've done your part to begin to get him some help.
he's your friend, he wont be alive if you let him do this and he kills himself. Do your duty as a friend, he may not like it, but at least he will be alive, and he cannot hate you for that. I'm sorry you have to make such a difficult decision.

He needs help you need to let the counselor, parents, principle or someone in authority know. He needs help

If this person ids your friend, you should do something. Try calling the local mental health center and asking them what you can do or what they could do for her.
I'm sorry if there's some emo fans here but emo are often causing too much drama around them as it is. Emo crave attention and nothing more how do u think they got popular anyway? Suicide gets most attention nowadays that's how emo got popular. I think u should wait abit and ignore for awhile and i think things will blow over i have an emo friend she tried cutting to get attention she did it twice and on the third time i stopped paying attention and she stopped.
Cutting yourself once is a serious problem. First go and approach your friend. Just listen and ask questions to try to get them to open up without seeming nosey. The most common reason why people cut themselves is because they hold everything in and need a way to release the pain. I dont know how old you are, but if the person is underaged, you have to tell an adult if you are truely concerned. If the person has said anything about suicide and has said that they have the means, and plan of how they are going to do it tell someone right away. Let your friend know that you are honestly concerned and that you are being a true friend by trying to help them and support them. Try to also steer clear of words like "crazy" or "psychotic" as both a extremely hurtful. If you are worried about being alone with the person take them to a public place such as a cafe or maybe just invite them to a movie and dinner and talk to them any chance you get. Just showing interest might help your friend. Also look online for counceling hotlines that may also be able to help your friend. And if at any time you are concerned for their lives or someone else's or if you cant handle it yourself, you have to tell someone. Hope this helps.
self mutilation and cutting are problems more deep than the stigma "emo" leads on. emo is a fashon statement, just like gangster, prep whatever u happen to be comfortable wearing. yes he does need help if he is cutting or doing other forms of self mutilating (branding, pulling out hair, ect.) you can tell his parents to begin with (assuming he is a minor) if he is an adult you cant force him to get treatment, just encourage.. good luck/.

self injury is an illness. those who self injure (myself included) struggle every single day to try and NOT cut. it's idiots who think it's "cool" that make us look bad and attach the stigma surrounding self injury to us. i'm sure if they lived ONE DAY of our lives, they wouldn't be thinking it was so cool. again, it's an illness and a serious problem and it sickens me when people invalidate how serious it is because it's "cool".

btw little words of advice, someone who cuts them self isn't emo. Saying that word is taking it to an extreme, there is a huge difference, emo is a genre of music, not a person.
one time too many. I used to be a cutter, and The first time i tried it, it hurt, but when you keep going u will get numb. When your numb you dont feel it. And that feeling made me do it even more. Cutting is a way to release built up anger and sadness. What your friend really needs is someone strong enough to take on his hurts. But before you do that, make sure you can handle it yourself. If you cant handle it, then definetely call a hospital. I was there too and their not as bad as people think. I learned how to cope and talk. And i learned what my trigger points were and how to handle them in a positive way. This is definetely more serious than you think. Good luck, and plz be their for your friend.
try and approach him tell him what the problem is, if this doesnt help try to approach a physiciatrist so he can be treated well and resolve his problems, because the next step might be suicide for him

WHAT IS EMO?
VERSION ONE
The original emo was short for emotive-hardcore, a subgenre of 1980's DC punk. Some of these bands were Moss Icon, Rites of Spring, and Dag Nasty. These kids were closely tied to punk. The few existing "original" emos dress like nerds with sweater vests and dress pants.
VERSION TWO
This one came up in the early 90's. These kids wear tight shirts and old, cut-up jeans. They have messenger bags and carry around a notebook to write poetry. They have black rimmed glasses and are "over-emotional" but NOT whiny. They get the most down about relationships. They enjoy the arts and reading in-depth books. They have many opinions and often talk about them. They usually hang out in coffee shops. They listen to pretentious or acoustic music.
VERSION THREE
This one came about around the mid-2000's. They have blogs and they whine about everything. They dye their hair with cheap black hair dye. Their hair is messy, greasy, and has side-swept bangs. Their clothes are much like the previous version, only they have a larger emphasis on band tee's and they have started wearing skinny jeans. They love Chuck's and Van's. They listen to pop-punk music and adore Hot Topic. Self-harm is a pretty recent addition to "Emo".
WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
Many say the first Emo album was Husker Du's Zen Arcade back in 1984. This actual Emo music managed to stay popular with "Emo" people until about 1999 at which point the media stole this term to describe bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Jimmy Eat World. These became the bands for the next version of Emo. Around 2006 they began to get confused with goths.
WHY IS IT SO POPULAR?
That just became a trend, to be unique. When a lot of people think "unique" they think "unpopular". That is what Emo was before and now it's just a "popular" thing to do when you are "hurting".

Emo is both a clothing style and an attitude coming from the word "Emotional". Emos are generally depressed or pretend to be depressed and wear the emo style. Those were wear the style but don't act depressed are called scene and the two are sometimes interchangeable. Guy emos wear tight pants, tight shirts, and long bangs. Girls generally do the same, but they don't seem as common. Eyeliner is common, and some wear scarves and bows in their hair. Piercings generally go along with the style.
Emo has also been called "Pseudo-Goth" as it is sort of the same, but not really. Hot Topic is the main Emo/Goth store.
Emo can also refer to the type of music a person listens to. Screamo music and hard rock are generally considered Emo, especially if they are more or less depressing. A lot of Emos really like the band My Chemical Romance.
I'm being pretty steriotypical here, but that about sums it up, I think.

"emo" originally came out of a type of punk rock in the early to mid 80's... sometimes called emocore, or emotionally hardcore punk. However in the mid 90's the term got associated with an indie scene whose core was a group of fans of Fugazi...
However in the late 90's the scene pretty much died, and a bunch of mainstream bands picked up the look from the bands from the earlier emo groups and now the term has become pretty much to mean the scene kids that are imitating the look from the earlier groups.
Course I was only seeing this from the outside, as I stuck with the industrial and goth music subcultures myself back in the 80's

I like the song music box {Regina Spektor; From the JC Penny Commercial} so much, that I put it on my myspace. The only person that had the song on their Regina profile got deleted or banned or left or something, but its not there anymore.
Oh well.
What I need now is a good band that has great lyrics and a nice sound. No screamo and please, no one crying into the microphone because their life sucks. Also, if they could have kind of a 'sound' {Like when you listen to it, you get a picture of a ballerina or something in your head} that would be awesome.

I dont know if this is exactly emo, but it is my chemical romance. It is a song called CEMETARY DRIVE. it has a dead feeling you know like mabee a dead ballerina or a creepy vampire or zombie or sumthing its cool. check it out. this has nothing to do with a ballerina but panic! at the disco hs this great song called BUT ITS BETTER IF YOU DO

I love the Format, they are an amazing band at of Arizona. I am crazy about format, my favorite songs are "snails" "Janet", actually just listen to all their albums the latest "Dog Problems" is amazing or their last album "Interventions and lullabies". I just saw them on tour recently and I actually get teared up thinking about how beautifully they performed. I've been thinking about getting a van that has their name air bushed on the sides and following on tour. If I won the lottery I really would do that.

Emo stands for Emotional Hardcore music. It's a subgenre of punk. Don't believe what the others will say, they are uneducated most likely. I am only saying that for your own good.

emo is short for emotional. i.e. those teenage kids that grow up as a white middle class male in suburbia...and cry because their lives are so bad.
and they wear eye liner...loads of eyeliner.
but the word is tentative..for example, dashboard confessional is seen as an emo band because most of their songs are about girls leaving them..or pain... but really they just have good music.
